This web blog is about the best in modern writing, from 2000 onwards. Books written by humans, not by AI. A curated list, a refuge for anyone who is looking for something that will reward the effort of the reading a new book for its own sake.

It may not be a best-of, nor a bestselling, but hopefully it might be a give-a-lot-of-pleasure list.

I have read all the books here over the last 20 years or more – the reviews are on the site. I try not to give away too much but still give a flavour to what to expect. A tease even.

I am a ruthless reader. I will drop a book after a few pages or half way through. That is because I write. I appreciate the craft itself, also the craft of book-making be that fiction, faction, memoir or anything in book format.

I don’t get paid to do this. I bought all the books here for myself. I read because I want to learn  to be a better writer. This is my literary keep-fit class.  I want to share the skills and ideas on show….so that is what the LIST is –  a Literary Show.Not a dog show. Not a flower show. A book show. Enjoy.
